When the owner of this elegant Claremont home approached us about creating their ideal garden, we were excited to have the opportunity to deliver a landscape design with timeless appeal. Having recently been renovated, we wanted the landscaping to complement the modern yet classic look and feel of the property.

As the front garden was the main entrance to the house, it needed to be an inviting and functional space to walk through, whilst also being appealing to look at from the outdoor entertaining area on the front verandah. We designed a custom pond to create an immediate sense of beauty and calm as you walk through the front gate. It was built to be large enough to add some beautiful jewel-toned Koi fish, which we enjoyed helping the owner to handpick. The night flowering water lilies floating delicately on the pond’s surface not only provide essential cover for the fish but a unique talking point for guests enjoying an evening outdoors.

We brought in some contemporary elements with concrete paths between the porch and pond. In order to achieve a softer, more uniform look the paths were formed and poured as one, then burnished to a matte finish before being sealed. These clean concrete lines frame a central grass area that looks great and will be easy to maintain. From an architectural and aesthetic standpoint, it was critical that the sight-line from the end of the grass continued through to the edge of the pond. This was achieved by setting in the pond wall and was one of many carefully considered, luxury finishes.

We worked closely with our client to source and procure suitable mature plant species that provided immediate impact. The planting palette was customised to reflect the client’s preference for lush, green and exotic plants, which we highlighted with elegant night time spot lighting to add a sense of depth and tranquility to the space.
